Awards and Certificates
Participants of the SafeSciMET programme are normally science, life science, medical or veterinary post-graduates (see How to Apply), either currently working in a safety sciences environment or seeking to gain knowledge on safety sciences at a specific point of their career. Courses are especially designed to support post-graduates and professionals in widening their expertise in integrative and translational* safety science aspects.
SafeSciMET students have several choices how to participate in the programme:
- One can attend courses as ‘stand alone’ courses or as subsets with multiple courses for personal Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes.
- One can also choose to undertake a full course curriculum for receiving the Master of Advanced Safety Sciences for Medicines (MAS2M) degree.
Participants of the SafeSciMET programme are normally life science, medical or veterinary graduates either currently working in the safety science environment or seeking to gain knowledge on safety.
The modular set up has major advantages;
- participants can attend single courses or follow sub-sets of the programme
- possible exit points are defined as CPD diplomas, ECTS credits certificates, or a fully accredited MSc degree
- dedicated quality assurance for courses
- course programme easily adapted to new topics, developments and legislation changes in safety sciences
- apart from the core courses, participants can choose to transfer external credits awarded by accredited providers towards their MSc degree
All SafeSciMET courses have a common format (set at 3 ECTS credits). The courses consist of one week of face-to-face onsite education and training at an academic centre or industry location, followed by examination.
Immediately, after the week of onsite teaching, the students are encouraged to receive and accept an individual home assignment, with a translationally oriented case study typically provided by industrial stakeholders. If so, it has to be completed and submitted within six weeks after the course.
Depending on the diploma or certificate they are aiming at (CPD or ECTS credits), students can choose to take part in the examination or to undertake the home assignment, both together however being a requirement for receiving the academic ECTS credits transcript.
* Translational typically refers to the translation of basic research into therapies for real patients, i.e. ‘from molecule to patient’ or “from bench to bedside”.
